At over 5,000 km², Gonarezhou is Zimbabwe’s second-largest National Park. Largely undiscovered by the outside world, this striking national park is one of Africa’s last great pristine wildernesses. Famous for the striking sandstone Chilojo Cliffs, this striking remote wilderness has many hidden treasures, known only to the thousands of elephants that roam the lands undisturbed.

What to Expect

Gonarezhou has a warm climate, with daily highs ranging from about 25 degrees Celcius in winter to high 30s in the height of summer. The evenings are cool and pleasant year-round, with a winter low of about 10 degrees Celcius and a summer low of about 25 degrees.

What to Wear

We recommend packing light neutral-coloured clothing for the day and long sleeves for the evenings. In winter pack some warm clothing, such as a jacket, beanie and gloves for the brisk sunrise game drives.

Health and Safety

Gonarezhou and Chiredzi are a malaria areas. We recommend all guests travelling to the region consult their doctor regarding malaria prevention and ensure they travel with ample insect repellent. 

What to Do

The Chilojo Cliffs

Visible from 50km away, these magnificent red sandstone cliffs, which have been formed through eons of erosion, tower above the sandy Runde riverbed.

Bush Walks

Enjoy a change of pace with and immerse yourself in nature with a guided bush walk.

Palm tapping

Unique to the region, the tradition of the wine tapping from the Ilala palm is an ancient Mahenye tradition.
