What to Wear

For summer, from September to March, cool comfortable clothing is recommended along with sunhats and sunscreen.

For winter and autumn, from April to August, warm clothing is recommended, especially for the night times.

What to Expect

The weather in Matopos can vary widely, during the summer months, from September to may, you can expect hot days and warm evenings with the occasional rainy day. In the winter months, April to August, expect cool days and cold nights, with the occasional misty morning.

Health and Safety

The Matobo Hills is not considered to be a malaria area.

Rock Art

Hidden in the caves and rock shelters of the Matobo Hills are over 3,000 registered rock art sites, giving it the greatest density of such art anywhere in the world.

Malindidzimu

From the Stone Age to recent times, The Hill of Spirits has been both a place of worship and a place of refuge during rebellion, a hunting ground and a battleground.

Rhino

Matobo provides an excellent opportunity to see one of Africa’s most iconic endangered species, the rhino! Guided rhino walks take you close to these magnificent critically endangered animals.
