For any nature enthusiast, Victoria Falls offers an incredible birding experience. The area boasts a rich and diverse ecosystem, hosting over 400 bird species, making it a true haven for birdwatchers. For the best experience, it’s advisable to go birdwatching with a guide or a tour operator, who is knowledgeable about the area and can help identify the different species of birds.
One of our favourite birding activities is The RaIkane birdwatching cruise, it is one of the best ways to spot the special species that are found on the Zambezi River. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable birding experience in one of the most beautiful and diverse regions in the world.

The Zambezi River
The Zambezi River is an ideal place for birdwatching due to its wide range of bird species. You may spot African skimmers, African fish eagles, black herons, half collared kingfishers, olive woodpeckers and African Finfoots, and even the recently seen Ross’s Turaco that is far from its usual range.
Victoria Falls Rainforest
The Victoria Falls Rainforest is another fantastic spot for birding, where you can witness a variety of forest birds such as trumpeter hornbills and Schalow’s turacos enjoying the lunch vegetation that thrives under the Smoke that Thunders.
Canoe Safaris
The Batoka Gorge is a deep canyon parallel to the Zambezi River, and it provides a home for different raptors like augur buzzards, Verreaux’s eagles and Taita Falcons, albeit more rarely.
